From the Chopping Block: Last Chance to Get your Kids Cooking this Summer

Our kitchens have been full of the sights, sounds and smells of young cooks hard at work and having fun this summer. The Chopping Block’s Kid and Teen summer cooking camps have been going strong since the beginning of June and will continue through August. This is your last chance to get your kids cooking this summer!

Check out just a few of the amazing plates our teens have made so far this summer:

Each kids’ and teens’ cooking camp includes a hands-on lesson on ingredients, sanitation, organization and cooking techniques. You child will learn techniques that will prepare them for the future and a lifetime of cooking.

In our kids’ classes, budding chefs 7 to 11 years old learn fundamental kitchen skills, focusing on measuring, mixing, working cleanly and safely in the kitchen, and exploring new foods, while following recipes geared for their age group.

Young teens ages 12 to 16 get to experiment with simple yet sophisticated menus that they’ll enjoy re-creating at home. They’ll learn the basics of knife skills, cooking and baking techniques, and organizing prep work.

Your kids will become confident in the kitchen, make new friends and of course, learn important cooking skills during our camps. We encourage parents to sign up their children for multiple camp sessions in order for your child to have time to build upon the skills they learn and gain confidence.

All kid and teen camps are held at our Lincoln Square location.

Here are the camps that have spots available in August:

Since our teen camps are already sold out for the rest of the summer, consider our Teen Boot Camp at the Merchandise Mart location in August. In this five-day intensive class, students will become proficient at making sauces, butchering, knife skills, meat and vegetable cookery, making dough and baking. Additionally, they will understand the how’s and why’s of cooking, preparing them for a future of confidence in the kitchen. There is no other intensive cooking class being offered for teens like this in Chicago!
